April 1998
River Tay - Kenmore, Castle, Point and
Bolfracks Beats
The beginning of April saw cold
north easterly winds, bringing snow flurries
and decent falls on the hills. The river dropped
back to ideal fishing levels. No fish were
reported during the first week, but by Easter
Weekend things were looking up.
Nils-Erik Tornquist - a regular
from Scandinavian struck lucky (again!) on April
13th with two fish taken from the Point.
Both fish fell to an Ally's Shrimp, long tail
version size 6, on an intermediate line. The
fish were found at the very tail of the pool
and may well have been Lyon fish. Both were
in immaculate condition, one being sea-liced.
The fish weighed 10 and 12lbs respectively.
Fish have also been seen above the Kenmore
Bridge. Nils reported that fishing was difficult
as there were gusty winds from the north and
snow flurries. His efforts certainly paid off!
On the trout front a few good
fish to two and half pounds have been reported.
There have been superb hatches of March Browns
- even seen during snow storms! There have
also been hatches of a small unidentified
pale olive as well a few sedges, probably
Grannom.
