Ally's Shrimp    Ian Chassar

By tradition salmon fishing has been open to the public on the Kenmore beats for the Opening day. It might get a bit crowded, but as a social occaision for salmon anglers it is second to none. Anglers were asked to make a donation to the Tay Foundation in return for a permit. £405 was raised from the river and £150 from the loch. The "gentleman" holding the fly is Ally Gowans. If ever you catch a salmon on an Allys Shrimp (1/2 of all salmon are) you can blame him ... he created it.

Every one gets to have a go including the rich and famous.

All in all it was a great day. Inspite of our many efforts no fresh fish were landed. Quite a few kelts baggots and rawners were reported. The size of kelts was also quite impressive. But by close of play we were all ready for the evenings entertainment.
