The NOMAD UK National Rivers Championship is the testing ground for The Scottish Rivers International Team and is sponsored by this local Tayside specialist clothing and tackle manufacturer. This year's final took place on 13th August from the Logierait Hotel on the River Tummel.

All four preliminaries and the final itself are held on the local River Tummel. River conditions vary greatly extending each and every competitor to guarantee a strong international team. Competition is strong, so is the camaraderie and so also is the respect shown to the wild trout and grayling caught with each fish being handled and returned to the water with greatest of care and minimum of touch. It is a very professional event and so are the fly fishermen taking part both as competitors and co-ordinators.

Climatic conditions in each of the four preliminary events were different but the standard of the fishing results was uniformally high promising a truly exciting final with no less than eight uncapped finalists, nine with two or three caps each and three with over six.

As an indication of the closeness of the results and size of bags: the heaviest fish caught so far was by George Caldwell (West of Scotland FD) - a magnificent Brown Trout of 58.5cms, never-the-less it was just not good enough to get George a place in the finals. In wishing George our commiserations (there is always another year) we also congratulate him on such a sterling effort and one that truly lays down the gauntlet to the finalists on the day. Well Done George !!

Morning of the Final 1999

Logierait Hotel is the venue for the meet. The competition's Saltire banner will be displayed for all to see. Although fly fishing is very much so an individual's sport and competitions even more so, please feel free to come along - watch and ask questions. You'll have the opportunity of seeing the best of Scotland's river anglers in action, each with a co-ordinator full of fishy knowledge most willing to divulge and you are most welcomed to attend.
