Continuing its journey through Strathmore it is joined by another major tributary the River Ardle where it is renamed the River Ericht. The Ericht is a very productive salmon river with over 5,000 fish a year going through the monitoring station and rising. Access is not always easy as there are regular rocky gorges. The weir at Blairgowrie is famous for holding up salmon and at low water in summer has resulted in fish kills. The Tay Salmon Fisheries Board eased the passage at Cargills Leap.
