Description of the River Carron in Wester Ross

River Carron in Wester Ross, Scotland, rises in Ledgowan Forest flowing alongside the A890 to Loch Scaven (Sgamhain). From Achnashellach the river meanders 12 miles southwest through the broad strath of Glen Carron into Loch Doule (or Doughaill). About 2 miles further southwest, it enters the head of Loch Carron near Achintee.

Like many West Highland rivers, stock and catch levels for salmon and sea trout fisheries crashed in the 1990s to critically low levels in 2001. The River Carron Restoration Project was formally established in August 2009 to rehabilitate the river.

A Highland spate river set in dramatic surroundings. Attadale owns the fishing on the River Carron from the road bridge at Strathcarron to the river mouth.
