Mochrum Park

Mochrum Park Mochrum Park
Self catering accommodation in The Coach House, Lodge and Smithy Cottage plus much of our fishing is privately and quietly situated in attractive countryside by the River Bladnoch at Mochrum Park, about six miles from Newton Stewart. This is part of the former estate of Sir Adrian and Lady Dunbar.

In addition to catering for the general holidaymaker year round, we are in an ideal position to offer specialist sporting holidays. With over 10 miles of privately owned salmon and trout fishing, we can offer unrivalled opportunities for the visiting angler at moderate cost.

Fishings are available to guests only.

Mochrum Park Beat River Bladnoch
The beat extends to 1 1/4 miles single bank, though pleasant countryside. It is considered amongst the very best on the river with 12 named pools. One of its great attractions is the very short walk to the river from three of our properties. The banks are well kept and are easily accessible to excellent open fly fishing for which wading is unnecessary.

Palnure Burn
2 1/4 miles of the west bank of the burn which is a small tributary of the Lower Cree. The first 11/4 miles downstream from Craignine Bridge is non tidal. The lower mile is tidal and is the most productive on the whole water. It’s tidal movements create the effect of regular spates and good catches can be made especially on the Lady Pool which can hold surprising numbers of Salmon and Seatrout even in drought conditions. Fly fishing is possible in open areas, but because of the wooded nature of the burn the most consistent success is had by the skillful use of the worm,

River Cree
Approx. 2 1/2 miles of the Lower Cree. This fishing extends into the tidal waters which can be most beneficial in times of low water. A few Spring fish start to enter the river in early April. Although the river Bladnoch is the main Spring river the Cree is well worth a try for an early fish. Late Spring into summer is the most productive time with often large runs of Salmon/Grilse and Seatrout entering the river about July. Seatrout and Herling provide the fisher with excellent sport at night.
